The Orion XS has been designed from the ground up to redefine adaptive DC battery charging. It is intended for use in dual-battery systems charged by a (smart) alternator. This device ensures not only top performance but also guarantees the safety of your system.

The Orion XS serves as a DC-DC battery charger or as a power supply and offers a wide input and output voltage range. This is especially important in vehicles with Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternators, which often supply too low charging voltage even when the engine is running, or in cases where long cable lengths—as often found in boats and motorhomes—result in voltage drops. In such cases, precise and controlled charging is essential to fully charge the service battery while protecting the starter/input battery from discharge.

Adjustable Charging Current
The charging current can be adjusted in increments as small as 0.1 A via VictronConnect.

Compatibility with Smart Alternators
The integrated mechanism detects whether the engine is running (engine shutdown detection) and activates the charger only when the alternator is supplying power. This ensures that the charger only draws power when the alternator is generating it—that is, when the engine is running.

Adaptive 4-Stage Charging Algorithm
For lead-acid batteries, it's important to keep the absorption time short if the battery is only slightly discharged, to prevent overcharging. After a deep discharge, the absorption time is automatically extended to ensure the battery is fully recharged. The Orion XS features customizable charging algorithms and eight pre-programmed battery settings.

Low-Temperature Shutdown and Input Undervoltage Protection
To prevent damage to lithium batteries, the charger automatically shuts down at low temperatures. It also shuts down when the input voltage drops below a configurable lockout value, and restarts when the voltage rises above the restart threshold—protecting the input source, i.e., the starter battery, from deep discharge.

Remote On/Off Switch
The Orion XS can be switched on and off remotely using a remote on/off connector or the VictronConnect app. Typical applications include integration with a switch or Battery Management System (BMS).

Full Electronic Protection
This includes protection against overload, short-circuit, and excessive temperatures. The charger is protected against overheating by reducing output power when the device reaches its maximum temperature. The Orion XS meets the IP65 protection rating, making it dust-tight and resistant to heavy rain.

Parallel Connection to Increase Output Current
There is no limit to the number of units that can be connected in parallel.

Bluetooth Smart Connectivity
A wireless solution for changing settings, monitoring activity, and updating Orion XS firmware using smartphones, tablets, or other Apple and Android devices. The VictronConnect app can display key data, including warnings and alarms, on the device list page without needing to connect to the product.

VE.Direct Communication Port
For wired connection to a GX device such as Cerbo GX or Ekrano GX, PC, or other devices. Enables advanced monitoring, control, and diagnostics from anywhere (requires GX device with internet connection and VRM portal) or locally via the Remote Console.
